La Graciosa has a very small population of little more than 500 people in total. Tourism is low here, which makes for a sleepy relaxing atmosphere. During our guided tour we aim to share our historical knowledge. Dating back to before the islands became inhabited and leading us through to present time. We will also cover Geological points of interest, along with detailed information about indigenous flora & fauna.

La Graciosa is a paradise for those who are interested in the natural world. Since 1986 the islands of this unique archipelago have been part of a protected UNESCO national park, ‘Parque Natural del Archipiélago Chinijo’. The water which surrounds La Graciosa houses two of the only marine and fishing reserves in the Canary Islands. The land itself across the island offers a thriving habitat for flora & fauna, along with a variety of birdlife.

La Graciosa desert island adventure

Landing on the gorgeous island of La Graciosa (Spanish word for graceful), we understand why the name was given. Unlike the smaller islands within the Chinijo archipelago, there is a low population of around 500 residents here. The calm waters of El Rio (the river) divide La Graciosa from Lanzarote. From Caleta de Sebo we can enjoy the views of ‘El Risco’ (another protected area of Lanzarote – see our Botanical cliff hike).

Our guided walk along the East coast will take us through dunes, lava flows and secluded beaches. The walk itself is easy, however due to the terrain it is necessary to wear sensible walking shoes. After approximately 1.5 hours (If we don’t stop for a dip on one of the beaches along the way!), we will arrive to Pedro Barba, This was the original settlement and has approximately 15 houses there today. This village no longer has any residents but the houses were restored, and are occasionally used as holiday homes.

Pedro Barba is completely empty most of the year, but well maintained. Each home has maintained a peculiar architecture, the original Graciosa holiday homes. We will also find a lovely beach with golden sand – The perfect opportunity to relax, swim and snorkel. After this refreshing break, we will get into a jeep to explore the rest of the island in a jeep safari ride. We see more stunning beaches, volcanoes, arches created by lava flows and amazing ocean views as we zip across the land in our sturdy vehicle.

After our fun Jeep safari back to the village, we enjoy full Canarian Tapas before heading back to Lanzarote. This is an easy going and delightful excursion which will allow you to enjoy the beauty of this atlantic treasure island in full.
